Prince Efunmikan’s settlement in Orile Agege marked the beginning of a thriving community. He became the first Baale (traditional leader) of Agege, and his son, Prince Oshimoro, succeeded him. The lineage continued with Prince Ogunsi, who had five wives and numerous descendants, each contributing to the community’s growth.
Baale Ogunsi’s reign was particularly significant as it coincided with the arrival of white men in the area. His interactions with them led to a seven-year sojourn, during which he gained valuable insights and experiences. However, misunderstandings about his intentions led to his assassination by four men, who were later captured and brought to justice with the help of the white men.
Following Baale Ogunsi’s death, his son Prince Agbedeyi was installed as the new Baale. His reign saw the introduction of taxation and the expansion of Agege’s influence over numerous villages. Baale Agbedeyi’s leadership was marked by significant infrastructure and social developments, including the construction of roads and public amenities.
The transition to modern governance began with the establishment of Orile Agege LCDA in October 2003 by the administration of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This move aimed to decentralize governance and bring essential services closer to the people.
